COULD’ by Tamar Kasriel
Book Launch
Thursday 29.01.26
6pm to 8pm
All welcome

Leading Futurist Tamar Kasriel

We are delighted to be hosting the launch for the latest book by leading futurist (and erstwhile Velorose collaborator) Tamar Kasriel, and relish the opportunity to continue our reinvention of the book launch format; no readings, no hard sell - just the perfect opportunity to meet an inspiring writer and to ask questions in an informal and friendly environment - the answers, of course, might just be in her new book…

COULD: The Smart Thinking Handbook for When Nothing is Certain’ is a practical guide to staying calm and decisive when life feels unpredictable. Blending neuroscience, behavioural psychology and foresight techniques, it shows how to think clearly and act confidently even when nothing feels certain. All welcome to join us and to step inside the world according to Tamar Kasriel

Cassandra Mahoney, Voyeur (2025), Oil on Canvas (686mm x 660mm)

Cassandra Mahoney, Imprint (2025), Oil on Canvas (925mm x 710mm)

Fresh from exhibiting at the National Portrait Gallery, Cassandra Mahoney unveils a tender and moving series of oil paintings that invite the viewer to look closer, and deeper - and to look again. Within each frame sits another frame, holding the image, holding the people, holding secrets, and a sense of being held

These beguiling paintings pose questions and allow the viewer to provide answers, such is their openness and lack of didacticism; perhaps no explanations are required, when the feelings are this strong. The mention of ‘Figure-Ground’ in the subtitle of this exhibition makes reference to Gestalt psychology, wherein we are often unsure whether to focus on what seems at first glance to be the subject of a painting, or its context - and the implied framing, partial or in whole, merely reinforces this ambiguity

Cassandra Mahoney is a painter who focuses on the untold narrative of her subjects, using both colour and paint texture as an emotive medium to establish an inner dialogue between subjects and viewers. She has exhibited in London, Italy, Germany and Australia. This remarkable exhibition opens with three preview days, and runs for four weeks

All are welcome to join us for a celebration of 'The Beloved’, and all exhibited paintings will be for sale

When is an exhibition not an exhibition? When it’s a celebration of two lives, shared for 55 years, in Britain and in France. 7 years on from what would prove to be his final exhibition, ‘Fields of Vision’, held here at Velorose and curated by David Rosenberg, artist and teacher David Parsons is reunited with his wife, artist and teacher Jenny Parsons. Meeting in the 1960s at Birmingham School of Art, and ultimately working alongside one another in Hoxne (Suffolk) and near Béziers (France), they also lived in the Barbican - and it was there that their relationship with Velorose began 10 years ago

Jenny and David’s double-act in life - the first no-nonsense, but with a sharp eye for the hilarious in human behaviour, the second more than happy to spin a yarn and to relish the nonsense in human existence - often punctuated with performative blazing rows, was also one of balance and of passionate love and deep respect for the other. Velorose is honoured to have been asked to curate a joint show that brings the art of these two lovebirds (and much loved parents, and grandparents) together once again.

David’s experimental film work sits in Tate Britain’s archive, but his methodical and meticulous approach, together with a sideways glance, can be seen equally in his paintings and drawings in this exhibition.

More coexistence than dialogue (or heated argument), this exhibition may not be harmonious, or even comfortable, but it is one of equilibrium, and equality. And in bringing together their artworks like this, we look forward to welcoming friends, family, acquaintances - and those yet to encounter their work - just before the vernal (spring) equinox on Thursday 19 March for a true celebration of life and art. Known as well for their sociability and being the life and soul of the party, what better way to remember them than by hosting a party of our own; all welcome

All exhibited artwork and drawings will be for sale
